Several weeks ago, we published a blog about the effectiveness of glucosamine sulfate for osteoarthritis. A new study recently published in the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases adds even more compelling evidence to support the use of this valuable supplement. Researchers in France, Germany, Poland and Spain compared the effectiveness of combining glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate to a common anti-inflammatory drug called celecoxib, more commonly known as celebrex. The study concluded that the natural supplements were just as effective at reducing pain, stiffness, functional limitation and joint swelling/effusion after 6 months in patients with painful knee osteoarthritis. The fact that the combined glucosamine chondroitin therapy has such a good safety profile makes it easy to see why that is the better option when managing arthritic knee pain.
