Want to Jump Higher? See a Chiropractor!

Over the years, researchers have accumulated an impressive amount of evidence proving chiropractic is one of the most effective forms of care for patients with back pain, neck pain and headaches.  But there is also evidence that chiropractic can help improve how efficiently our body works.  One study that illustrates the impact of chiropractic care on athletic performance was conducted in 2015.  Researchers looked at the vertical jump in female university students who had functional leg length inequality (FLLI).  FLLI is something we see in the office quite regularly.  It simply means that one leg appears shorter that the other because of a problem with the movement of the pelvic joints.  FLLI doesn’t always cause pain so many people who have it may not even be aware.  In the study, participants’ jump was measure before and after either a chiropractic adjustment or stretches.  The group that received adjustments had a normalization of the FLLI as well as an increase in vertical jump by about 3.5 cm.  The stretching group had a much smaller change in FLLI and only had a 0.5 cm increase in vertical jump.  Studies like this explain why almost every professional sports team has a chiropractor on staff.  So whether you’re an elite athlete or weekend warrior, young or old, in pain or feeling great, a visit to a chiropractor may worth your while.
