Product Review: Even Up Shoe Balancer

As many of you may know, I ruptured my Achilles tendon 4 weeks ago while trying to relive sports glories of long ago.  I recently began fully weight-bearing with my walking boot and I’m happy to say that things seem to be progressing well.  Part of the treatment protocol includes the use of heel lifts in the boot in order to keep the injured foot in a plantarflexed or toe-down position.  This obviously causes some significant imbalances when you walk or stand.   These imbalances can lead to back, hip and knee pain.  Certainly, chiropractic adjustments can be helpful in dealing with this type of biomechanical stress, but it would be ideal to limit the stresses in the first place.  That’s where the Even Up shoe balancer comes in.  This product is designed to add height to your non-injured foot to balance out weight distribution between your two legs.  I ordered mine last week and it really has made a difference.  It’s like a sandal that easily slips over your running shoes.  It is very easy to use and relatively inexpensive.  Once again, we ordered from OrthoMed Canada with the cost coming in at around $50.  Some downsides to the product include a lack of versatility.  I tried to use it over my dress shoes during my first day back at the office and the shoe balancer slid off on a few occasions.  Other than that, I must say that the product delivered as promised.  Absolutely worth considering if you have to use a walking boot for any length of time.
